Steven Low, Ph.D.

Co-founder, Chairman

Steven Low co-founded FastSoft with Cheng Jin and launched its commercial operation in 2006. Steven currently serves as its Chairman and is both a Professor of Computer Science and a Professor of Electrical Engineering at Caltech. Prior to FastSoft and Caltech, Steven worked on networking research and digital watermarking at AT&T Bell Labs in Murray Hill, NJ, and in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department at the University of Melbourne in Australia. He has won several awards for his research, and is on the editorial boards of several networking publications. Steven is an IEEE Fellow and was a member of the Networking and Information Technology Technical Advisory Group for the US President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST). Steven received a BSEE from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in EE from UC Berkeley.

Cheng Jin, Ph.D.

Co-founder, CTO and VP of Engineering

Cheng Jin leads FastSoft’s product development efforts and serves on its Board of Directors. He brings 11 years of research and development experience in network algorithms, protocols, and product development. Cheng is a co-inventor of FastTCP, and the architect and key developer of FastSoft’s flagship products. Prior to co-founding FastSoft, Cheng served as a post-doctoral researcher at Caltech with Steven Low. Cheng holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering and a Masters of Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and a BSEE from Case Western Reserve University.

J. Edward Snyder

President and CEO

Ed Snyder is a 20 year veteran in technology-based business management, with extensive P&L / CEO experience building top caliber management teams and leading a broad range of companies from startup through successful market growth to ongoing business viability. Most recently, Snyder founded and/or seed-funded several successful startups including Netboost (acquired by Intel, NASDAQ:INTC), Jibe Networks and Proxinet (as CEO) acquired by Puma Technologies. Prior to that, he was CEO of Beaverton, Oregon based ProTools, Inc. which was acquired by Network General in a pooling-of-interest merger. Earlier, Snyder was CEO of Alantec (Fremont, CA), a venture-backed company in the LAN switch business, which went public and was later acquired by Fore Systems. After completing active duty as an Engineering Officer in the U. S. Navy, Ed embarked on his career with TRW as a member of the Technical staff. Spending 14 years with TRW, he exited as Vice President and General Manager of TRW Information Networks Division which he founded as a commercial spin-out from a secure U.S. Government project. Ed received his undergraduate (B.S.) and graduate education (Ph.D) in Control Systems Engineering at M.I.T.

Edwin J. Lau

ICCP Venture Partners

Ed Lau is Managing Director of ICCP Venture Partners and has been with the firm since 2003. Prior to this, Ed was the Co-Founder and CEO of New Moon Systems, Inc. (ORCL) and Audible, Inc. (AMZN). He has 31 years of management and technical experience in a variety of technology fields. Ed started his career at Bell Laboratories in 1979 and has been involved with starting and/or managing new technology companies since then. He has been an active pioneer in his field with his co-inventions in display virtualization at New Moon in 1997, the creation of the first portable Internet media device at Audible in 1995, and the co-development of pipeline look a-head instruction execution used today in most high performance x86 processors at Trilogy Systems in 1985. Ed is co-author of eight patents.

Ed holds a Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and has a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from New York University.

Paul L.H. Ouyang

Internships LLC

As co-founder, President and Chief Operating Officer of Internships LLC, Mr. Ouyang oversees sales, finance, technology, client services, marketing, and corporate administration. Mr. Ouyang successfully built several start-up ventures into high growth companies that either went public or were sold to strategic partners. He has been directly involved with over $15 billion of strategic transactions. Previously, Mr. Ouyang was the co-founder, President and COO of The NTI Group that was sold to Blackboard Inc in 2008. Prior, he was the Chief Executive Officer of Vivendi Universal Net USA, a subsidiary of Vivendi Universal, and also served as its Chief Operating Officer. As Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of MP3.com, Inc., Mr. Ouyang played a key role in the sale of MP3.com to Vivendi Universal after orchestrating what was, at the time, the largest initial public offering for an independent Internet company. Mr. Ouyang has also served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Tickets.com, Inc. and Cheap Tickets Inc.; Managing Director of Corporate Finance at KPMG Peat Marwick LLP; and Vice President in Investment Banking at J.P. Morgan & Co.

Mr. Ouyang is currently a Director of Huntington Hospital, FastSoft, Inc., Internships Corporation and a trustee of the Collis P. and Howard Huntington Memorial Trust. Previously, he was a Director of the NTI group, VU Net USA, Southern California Healthcare Systems, SeeUthere.com, and a trustee of the Chandler School. He received his Masters in Business Administration in Finance and a General Electric Fellowship from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Amherst College.

Heiner Sussner, Ph.D.

Miramar Venture Partners

Heiner Sussner joined Miramar Ventures as a Managing Partner in 2001 after 25 years working with world-class engineers and scientists at IBM Research and in venture-backed technology companies.

He serves on the boards of Azuro, Innovative Micro Technology and Fastsoft, and previously served on the board of Protego Networks, which was acquired by Cisco Systems.

From 1998 until he joined Miramar, Heiner was a Senior Managing Director of H&Q Asia Pacific, a private equity firm with $1.8 billion under management focusing on technology and other investments in Asia and the United States. Heiner began his professional career at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Physics in Stuttgart and joined IBM Research in San Jose, California in 1980 working on advanced recording technology. In 1986, Heiner became Director of Storage Systems and Technology for IBM Research. In 1992, he joined IBM Europe in Paris as Executive Consultant to the head of marketing for IBM Europe, and was co-founder and Director of IBM Europe’s corporate venture group.

Heiner holds a Ph.D.in Physics from the University of Konstanz and is author of numerous scientific publications and several patents. He was awarded the 1994 IEEE Medal for Engineering Excellence.

Bob Holmen

Miramar Venture Partners

Bob is a co-founder of Miramar Venture Partners. Bob’s career experience encompasses hardware and software engineering to senior management in three technology companies. Most recently, Bob served as Vice President & General Counsel of First Consulting Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: FCGI), which provides information technology consulting, integration and management services to health care, pharmaceutical and other life science organizations throughout North America and Europe. He also served an integral role in the creation and operations of First Ventures, FCG‘s in-house venture capital investment fund.

Prior to FCG, Bob served as Chief Financial Officer and General Counsel of CoCensys, Inc., a venture-backed biopharmaceutical company that discovered and developed new drugs for the treatment of neurological and psychiatric disorders. Bob was responsible for the finance, intellectual property and legal departments at CoCensys until its sale to Purdue Pharma in 1999. From 1994 until its sale to Harcourt General in 1997, Bob was a member of senior management at National Education Corporation, a global provider of interactive multi-media products and services for the education and training marketplace. Bob began his career at Hughes Aircraft Company as a Member of the Technical Staff, designing and programming application software and integrating hardware and software for defense-related projects.

Bob received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 1985, serving as an officer of the national engineering honor society at Stanford. He received his J.D. from UC Berkeley in 1989. He currently serves on the Boards of the following Miramar portfolio companies: FastSoft, Matrix Sensors, and SolarFlare Communications (observer). He also served on the board of SiliconSystems which was acquired by Western Digital in March 2009.
